A manly man’s guide to essential oIls: In June we celebrate Father’s Day and this is a perfect opportunity to prove that essential oils (EOs) aren’t just for women!
Most men are scared-off by EOs because they either think they won’t work on them or are scared they’ll smell too girly. But in fact, there are many EOs that can be used specifically for men’s issues and lots of essential oils are used in men’s colognes; so many EOs inherintely smell manly!
It doesn’t get more macho than a historical note where on the eve of a battle, officers of the Roman army were massaged with a special blend of essential oils (a blend of Black Spruce, Blue Tansy & Frankincense). The aroma of the oils would calm their nerves, give them courage, and help them to focus their thoughts as they prepared for their fighting duties.
So if it’s manly enough for a Roman soldier than it’s manly enough for ANY man!
Men have different needs then women and there are a lot of interesting ways for men to use essential oils, beyond courage, for a variety of concerns such as muscle aches, snoring, hair loss, dandruff, psoriasis, digestion, athletes foot, heart burn, low libido, grooming, or even for assisting the handyman or for working outdoors in warmer weather!
-Hair Loss/Thinning Hair: Add Rosemary and Cedarwood to your shampoo/conditioner
-Muscle Aches: Wintergreen, Copaiba, and Peppermint
-Snoring: Thyme & Marjoram
-Dandruff: Tea Tree & Peppermint
-Psoriasis: Tea Tree, Cedarwood, Helichrysum & Myrrh
-Digestion: Peppermint, Ginger, and fennel
-Low Libido: Ylang Ylang
-Athletes Foot: Tea Tree and Oregano
-Removing goop & grime: Lemon oil will help dissolve grease, glue, help remove tape, loosen rusty screws, and remove bugs from car!
-Cooling skin & insect repellent: Peppermint on the back of the neck while working outdoors and adding citronella and eucalyptus will also act as a natural insect repellent.
1. To inhale an essential oil, you can utilize steam baths, or dropping a few drops into the palm of your hand, rubbing hands together then cupping over your nose.
2. To diffuse and essential oil using a household diffuser. Especially helpful in the bedroom for sleep.
3. To apply to your skin, use a diluted blend of oils. For adult males, you want to use a ratio of 1 drop EO to 2 drops carrier oil, which can be almond oil, grapeseed, jojoboa oil, etc. Take care to avoid contact with your eyes and mouth if you’re applying to your face.
